The name Cancun means ''nest of the snakes'' in ancient Mayan language. Back in time when it was inhabited by the Mayans, it used to be known as the city of Nizuc meaning ''place of grass''.

Cancun is a big city in the south-eastern part of Mexico, located on the north-east side of the Yucatan Peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo. It is the most important tourist destination in Mexico, and one of the most popular vacation area of all America . The city is located right on the amazing blue Caribbean Sea, north of the Caribbean coast resort paradise known as the Riviera Maya (or Mayan Riviera).

If you like to go out on day trips and do activities, Cancun will not disappoint you. You can snorkel the incredible coral reefs, visit the different Mayan Ruins, head out for deep sea fishing or fly fishing, ride ATV 4X4, zip lines and rappel on a jungle tours, swim through the caves and cenotes, there are so many things to do in Cancun.

Cancun weather is tropical and humid, and mostly sunny all year round. The average temperature goes from : 22° to 35° C (75° a 95° F) from the month of March to October and varies between 20° to 30° C (65° to 86° F) from September to April.

Cancun Hotel Zone

Most hotels, resorts and rental condominiums are located in the famous hotel zone.  Kukulcan Boulevard is the main street where everything happens day and night. On the west-side of the Cancun hotel zone is the beautiful laguna called ''laguna Nichupte'', a protected lagoon home to many crocodiles, crabs, iguanas, birds and hundread of different animal species more. Right in front of the laguna, you'll also find many marinas, golf courses, restaurants, bars, stores, shopping malls, and a whole lot of fun and entertainment for all the family everyday of the week.

Cancun Downtown, known as Cancun Centro

Downtown Cancun offers a more local view of the Mexican Caribbean. The atmosphere becomes more real as all the people who work in the hotel industry live here. There are plenty of real authentic Mexican restaurants, bars, shopping malls, and everything is less expensive than anything in the hotel zone. The city bus takes you from the hotel zone to downtown within 10 to 15 minutes, and cost 1 USD.
